In my early Christian days I never understood the need of interceding for others in prayer. If God was in control then why should I share my prayer needs to my friends. If God has planned things for me then who can change it? But when I started reading the word of God in a systematic manner, I realized that God values intersession. It was amazing to see how God changed the fate of Lot and his family because of Abraham’s intercession. Suddenly I recognized that the fate of many people, like Lot, around us depend on our intercession. Think
I never realized that intercession had such power – the power to change the fate of a person. When you see your prayer answered your faith will increase and you will begin to trust more and more in the providence of God.
Another inspiring and encouraging verse is in Job 42:10 says “ And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.” This is interesting, since Job might have been bitter towards his friends, but when he prayed for his friends there was no resentment in his heart. He was compassionate and earnestly prayed for them. An intercessory prayer became the reason for a U turn in Job’s life. That’s the power of (Intercessory) prayer. God has given us a weapon that can shape our lives and the lives of people whom we pray for.
Abraham prayed consistently and earnestly for Sodom because Lot was in Sodom. Similarly, Job too was genuine when he was praying for his friends.
In the past when someone shared a prayer request, I used to pray once or twice. I had a false sense of feeling that my duty was over. However, I realized that such prayers have no value. We cannot fool God. We should have compassion to pray for others. When we pray for others, pray with faith, pray earnestly, pray specifically and pray consistently until we see a change in their situation. Keep enquiring from the person or the subject that you are praying for on their status.
Today, I encourage you all to pray for others and become a reason in bringing breakthrough in others lives. God will not only answer your prayer but will give you a breakthrough in your own life.
